Snoopy

I’m Available!

Age: 1 year

Gender: Male

2 AUGUST 2014:

Need help watching what you eat?  Snoopy’s the pup to help you.  His creative begging will have you watch what you eat

He’s settled in his foster home now and his personality is showing!  A one year old pup that thinks he’s 5 months old.  He is medium energy and LOVES to play.  Trustworthy outside the crate….housebroken and doesn’t chew anything except the stuffing in soft toys.  He has run of the house now. I’ve baited him with shoes left out and he hasn’t touched them.  He knows basic commands and gives great hugs.  He’s a real character to have around and well-behaved.  I recommend a house without cats.   He does play rough so he’d have to be watched around small children as he may knock them over.  He’s also a very good watchdog. He’s alert and gives out a great AAARRROOOO!

14 JULY 2014: Snoopy has recently moved into his foster home. He is a typical one year old with lots of energy.  Snoopy knows basic commands, sit, out, stay, and shake, and walks well on lead.  He does well with other dogs but can be annoying, as he insists on playing most of the time.  Because he plays rough, I don’t think he’d do well with cats, but he has not been put to the test.  He seems to enjoy snuggling with foster sister, Elsie, though (see photo below)! More to come as he settles in!

Skye is a 2-year-old beagle mix who is fully vetted and ready for her next step in life!  This streamlined, lanky girl is a little taller than your average beagle but only weighs around 25 pounds.  Somewhere down the line there may be a hound in her heritage, but she’s definitely beagle!  Skye was a stray in Nottoway County, Virginia, so her history is unknown.

Elsie

I’ve Been Adopted!

Age: 1.5 years

Gender: Female

UPDATE – 14 JULY 2014: Elsie is in her foster home and doing well.  She needs work on housetraining and is very shy.  She has been in her foster home for a week and is just starting to warm up.  Other than that…she’s 16.2 lb of absolute cuteness!!! (She also seems to be getting along with her foster brother, Snoopy – see them snuggling in one of the photos below!)

Original info: Elsie is an approximately 1.5-year-old, small, petite female who weighs around 17 pounds.  She is extremely sweet and gentle but can be a little reserved and cautious at times.  She came in as stray in Amelia County, Virginia wearing cute little decorative collar, so she was probably someone’s pet but whether she was a house pet or not is unknown.  She also takes her time eating her dinner.  She is scheduled for vetting on Wednesday, June 11th and will be available for adoption soon thereafter!

Lil’ Anne

I’ve Been Adopted!

Age: 5 months

Gender: Female

Lil’ Anne is NOT available through BREW. If you are interested, please contact Teresa at: beaglesnbullies@embarqmail.com

Due to popular demand,  the little coonhound is named Lil’ Anne after the redbone in the movie “Where the Red Ferns Grow”.   She is a sweetie, energetic and definitely works that nose.  She is smart, may make a good working dog, search and rescue but is definitely a puppy and lots of fun.

She weighs about 35lbs and is absolutely gorgeous.  From what I have read, redbone coonhounds are very much like beagles in personality and make excellent pets for families with children.  She is super sweet, big personality to go along with that gorgeous bay, needs a little training but knows all about belly rubs!!  She is supersmart, learned the doggy door (coming in to the building at least) immediately.  When I agreed to take her, she was in the shelter lobby doing the little doggy bow, back end wagging feverishly, looking up showing the whites of those big brown eyes with long ears just flopping, being just too darn cute!!!  The shelter begged me to take her. What could I say?

Odie

I’ve Been Adopted!

Age: 2 years

Gender: Male

UPDATE – 31 May 2014:  Odie and Delila came to their foster home one week ago and had completely different responses.  They arrived while I was out and were spending time in the yard with my husband.  Immediately upon my stepping into the yard, Delila ran across the yard to come greet me.  Odie on the other hand, snuck up to me, let me pet him and then found the best hiding place in the yard.  One week later, Delila remains her lovey self, and Odie has really opened up.

Odie is a very sweet little guy.  He is still a bit fearful, but given the progress he has made in a week, he should be a confident dog in no time.  Odie is a bit nervous at meal time, eating some running off, and then coming back for more.  He sleeps quietly all night in a kennel with Delila.  Odie loves to sit with me and cuddle.  He is also a kisser.  Odie doesn’t know about belly rubs yet.  When I try to roll him over to rub his belly he gets a bit scared, but does accept them.  He plays with or ignores the other dogs as their personality dictates.  He is also good with the cats and the cats aren’t fearful of him.  I can’t really comment on house training yet – we did have a couple of accidents last weekend, but that can just be the stress of a new situation.

24 May 2014: Odie recently moved into a foster home. Here’s a VIDEO of him with his current foster sister, Delila.

First impressions: Odie is a 2-year-old neutered male beagle.  Odie would do best with another dog.  He’s a little on the shy side but does warm up once he gets to know you.  He was a stray in Goochland County so his history is unknown. Stay tuned for more information on Odie!

Jet

I’ve Been Adopted!

Age: 1-2 years

Gender: Male

10 MARCH 2014: Jet has been with us now since New Year’s Day. He is a very sweet boy who lives for belly rubs and human snuggles. Jet loves to give kisses, is a good kitchen “helper”, and loves to greet anyone who comes in the door! He does not know a human stranger, and everyone he meets is his friend immediately. We do not have kids, but he did very well meeting a few families with children at the adoption event.

He is house and crate trained and has pretty good house manners (minimal begging, no chewing, etc.). His one downside is that he does have some jealousy issues with other dogs. He generally gets along okay with our two beagles, but we do think he’d be best as an only dog. All things considered, Jet is a fantastically well adjusted dog. Some family will be very lucky to win his love forever! We promise you will never be better loved.

19 JANUARY 2014 – Note from foster home: While Jet LOVES the company of humans, he prefers to have them to himself and would be best adopted into a home with no other dogs.

17 DECEMBER 2013 – News from a great temporary foster! We adopted a BREW Beagle a year ago and he has been a fantastic addition to our family. To try to give back a little for the great work that BREW does, we offered to take one of the Beagles at the vet for a day on the weekend.

I have three children, ages 8, 7 and 5 and they rose at 5:30am they were so excited to go get Jet for the day. (Note to self, don’t tell the kids before breakfast next time!)

We picked him up at the Veterinary Clinic at about 10:30am. He came out and howled a greeting to us. I thought he might keep on barking but he stopped as soon as we went outside. He pulled me towards a tree and tinkled. Then he looked at me as if to say “What’s up? Where are we going?”

I sent the kids into the car and he hopped up with no assistance. On the way home he sat up in the front seat and just looked out. He was happy to be in the car and no trouble at all.

We got him home and he met my beagle Yahoo. They sniffed each other and then largely ignored each other. Jet went to the door and I interpreted that as wanting to go out. He went outside and relieved himself, then came back in. He clearly knew how to go outside. He also knows how to sit, as when I told my dog to sit for a treat, Jet sat down immediately. This dog was clearly someone’s dog at one point.

For the rest of the day he was happy to nap and be pet by my kids. When he’s sleeping and you call his name to get up, he rolls over with all fours in the air for belly scratches.

Very gentle boy. He was able to tolerate the mild rough behavior of my children with no problems.

If I had more room, I’d have kept him. This dog will be at home in almost any situation. Very calm and cuddly.

Original info: Jet came to us from the shelter in Dublin, VA. He was surrendered to the shelter in early November and thankfully BREW got him out in time. Jet is thought to be 1 – 2 years old and is friendly with both dogs and humans. In the case of humans he greets them with a wagging tail and a big, wet tongue in the face. Jet is at our favorite vet clinic now getting some work done, but will be ready for adoption in by 11/25. Wouldn’t you like to make your home his furever home?

Special thanks to Nicole Abramson who brought Jet to us from Dublin!

Van Gogh

I’ve Been Adopted!

Age: 1 year

Gender: Male

NEWS! Van Gogh, like his namesake, is quite the artist! Check out his new photos in the gallery below and on a photo page set up by Van Gogh’s foster dad!

UPDATE – 24 NOVEMBER 2013: Van Gogh is very happy and active. He has learned to play fetch! He loves going for walks around the neighborhood and loves to meet the kids and dogs. He seems to like taking a bath, too! He is a lot of fun!

First impressions: He is approximately 1 yr.  The flap of his left ear is missing.  Looks like someone tried to dock his ear.  He is cute as a button and super sweet. He likes everyone, kids and other dogs included.  He is friendly and outgoing.  Not very vocal but when he barks he sounds like he has been smoking.
