Tuck

I’m available!

Age: 1-2 years

Gender: Male

Tuck is a very sweet but incredibly shy young dog. He really wants to love and trust people but there are some that he is unsure about so he may avoid them at first and bark at them rather run up and greet them right away. He tends to trust women more quickly then men but he is very willing to give a fellow guy a chance especially if that guy has a cookie. He loves to go on walks and is a much more confidant dog when on a leash. He likes other dogs, ones that want to play and ones that want to just chill out on the couch. He gets along with children as well, though sometimes if they move too fast or make sudden noises they startle him and he will try to bolt. He is also learning to play with toys and even though the noise from the squeaky toys was very scary at first, it’s not so bad now. He loves to snuggle, and we made the mistake of letting him up on the human bed. He thinks that is the best invention in the world and would most likely spend the entire day there if we let him! He is housetrained and spends his day while we are at work in a kennel and keeps his kennel clean.  He is a very good watch dog so may not be ideal for an apartment. As you can see from his pictures, he is a handsome boy with very distinctive markings just waiting to wiggle his way into someone’s heart and home.

Tuck, 1-2yr old neutered male, fully vetted, friendly, good with other dogs, stray at the Louisa Co. Animal Shelter so his history is unknown.

Bisquick

Bisquick

Adoption Pending!

Age: 2-3

Gender: Female

Update 3/6/12 Bisquick is a happy, playful little doll. She has settled into a daily routine which is topped off at night by exurberant play — dashing around with her foster brother, tossing and tugging on her stuffed toys! After all that exhausting play, she likes to sit next her adoring “humans” on the couch, or at their feet, snuggled up close. And wonder of wonders: She has learned to “do her business” outside. No accidents in the house for a week! She is amazingly smart, sweet natured and gentle. She is less and less worried about the noises and people outdoors on the walk but still has that nose-to-the-ground beagle-on-the-hunt posture. It is so great to see her having fun, maybe for the first time in her life!

Update for 2-27: What a difference a day makes! Bisquick is running up and down the stairs and all around, romping with my tubby male beagle, Buddy, who could use the exercise. They are tossing toys and playing wildly and having a great time. Bisquick has come out of her shell!

Update 2-26: A lot of TLC has paid off for Bisquick! She is so much more relaxed inside the house and out. She comes to her food bowl and water without prompting and plays out in the yard without the intense anxiety she had last week. She is learning how to relax on the leash and enjoy the great outdoors. She is still quite alert to cars and loud noises and strangers, but she has greatly improved from a week ago. She also has kept her crate clean for several days, and now has hours on end when she can be trusted to lie around with her foster brother, outside her crate.

Bisquick will be a sweet loving family member in a calm home with a yard where she can romp and play like a beagle!

Holy cow is Bisquick adorable! I mean, seriously, how do beagles actually get this cute?

Bisquick is doing really well! She loves the comfort of her cozy crate and goes in without prompting. She is so cuddly and sweet natured; she has not made a sound yet, not a bark or whine or anything. She sleeps quietly all night in her crate, which is clean in the morning. She loves to be petted and will sit in front of me and wag her tail now, which she wouldn’t do at first because she was so shy.

She loves to go outside and has that typical nose-to-the-ground beagle walk. She is a little skittish still, sensitive and alert to people and sounds around her. She is comfortable in the house, but outside she is clearly afraid of cars and loud noises and other people. She is comforted when I stop and pull her closer and pet her when she gets scared.

Bisquick will need a quiet environment with reassurance and love in her permanent home. She is as smart as she can be. Boy, is she quick to learn! But more than that, she is so easy to love.

Wheatie

I’ve been adopted!

Gender: Female

Age: 5-6 years

Foster Home Update on 7/29:

This little sweetie pie has been with us for a week now. She must have been someone’s pet as she made herself right at home on one of my living room chairs. She also has not had any
accidents in the house and keeps her crate dry all day.

Wheatie gets along great with my pac and is very friendly however a bit reserved. Her tail is always wagging.

She loves to just roam in our yard. And she enjoys when the kids come by and pet her. She is fun to watch as she carries toys out into the yard. And she will even run after one if I throw it.

She doesn’t bark much!

If you are looking for a sweet, coach potato kind of girl, who is a very gentle loving dog, Wheatie is the one for you.

Wheatie is a 5-6 year old small spayed female, friendly, low key, great with other dogs.  Was a stray from Amelia Co. so her history is unknown.

Bella

I’ve been adopted!

Gender: Female

Age: 1-2 years

12 August 2012:  Bella is sweet and shy on the outside, but there’s actually a pretty spunky lady hiding inside. She stayed with us the past two weeks while her full-time foster family was on vacation, and as her foster mom told me, she is shy with people, loves other dogs, and is quite an enthusiastic eater. We’ve also discovered that Bella loves dog beds, going on walks, exploring the yard, Nylabones, and rearranging our dogs’ basket of toys (she will also steal flip-flops). She is not fond of vacuums, lawn movers, or construction noise (really, what dog is?), but she is strangely intrigued by loud vehicles, such as motorcycles and pick-up trucks (between this interest and her shyness, a retractable leash is not recommended for Bella!). Bella is house- and crate-trained, and she has done well sleeping in her crate at the foot of our bed with the door open.

Initially, we used a short leash to guide her around the house (upstairs to her bed/crate, to the back door, etc.), but she very quickly learned to follow the lead of the resident mutts (15, 30, and 60 pounds) and progressively got closer and closer to the rug that is our waiting place both for mealtime and twice-daily walks. Walks have proven to be a great way to bond with her – after about a week of darting back and forth from the rug, she now lies on the rug and lets me put the leash on, and she and her beagle nose excitedly lead us around the neighborhood. She ignored the resident cats for about a week, at which point she started periodically sniffing them and then whining at them when they wouldn’t play with her. She now gets so excited at mealtime that we had to start firmly telling her “no” because she will bark when we are too slow with the food. In the last couple of days, she has really shown that she wants to be friends with people, running up and giving us quick kisses on our hands and legs and accepting gentle chin and ear rubs. We have really enjoyed having her stay with us and think she would do well in a home with one or more dogs willing to show her the ropes and a family that can be patient with her as she gains her confidence and work on her leash skills and other manners as her spunky side comes through.

Bella is a 1-2 year old spayed female beagle mix.  She hasn’t had the greatest start in life so she’s a little on the timid side.  Her tail wags and she will approach you but needs a little more confidence building.  She gets along great with other dogs but was stray in Amelia Co. so her history is unknown.

Nala

Adoption Pending!

Gender: Female

Age: 3-4 years

UPDATE: Nala is a very sweet girl.  She is generally shy  and statrtles easily.  She has become affectionate with me.  She likes to lick my nose and likes to smell my face.  She loves to go for walks and sniff every nook and cranny of the neighborhood.  She is shy with strangers and other dogs, but her tail wags as if to say shyly, “H!”  We go for walks a lot and spend time in the backyard.  She is very good at pottying on the leash or in the fenced in yard.  I would say she qualifies as “has a clue” in regard to house training.  She curls up beside me on the couch sometimes. She spends as much time in her dog bed in the living room when I am home as on the couch with me. She usually sleeps in a dog bed at night.  She seems to enjoy a quiet lifestyle.  She is gernally a couch potato, but she sometimes runs laps in the backyard which is very entertaining for me.  She is a very good companion.

Nala is a 3-4 year old spayed female beagle.  She’s friendly and gets along well with other dogs, she was a stray at the Louisa Co. Animal Shelter so her history is unknown.

Polly

I’ve Been Adopted!

Gender: Female
Age: 2-3

New!!

FROM: Polly
TO: Everyone
I am settling into my new foster home. I slept for the first afternoon and evening, then I slept through the adoption day. If someone would come to see me, when they started to pet me, I would rollover give them my belly to rub and go back to sleep. Sunday, I played for about 15 minutes and then ran back inside to sleep some more. Please realize that being a beagle, I would always wake up for meals. I like my food, but am a little picky about treats. I don’t sleep so much now, I’m about recovered from my spaying and my trip to Delaware. Nana finds all the dog toys on her bed. I don’t play with them, I just like to collect them.
Monday, the girls came to walk me and brought Michael. I do well with children. They just loved me and came back again Tuesday for more walking. I like the walks, but on Monday Buster saw a rabbit and started such a racket, I was scared. I had to be carried for a while until things calmed down. It’s not so bad, because I’m a small beagle. When we got home, I grabbed my rawhide chew and went running to hide it. Everyone laughed because they all could see where I was hiding it.
I am a little shy, but not for long. I will sleep in the crate next to the bed and be content, but I prefer to be close to a human. I have used the “potty patch” and gone outside. I have never messed the floor here, Nana said I was a good girl. I like to snuggle with one person at a time and am curious about where everyone is in the house. I like to keep up.

Don’t let this photo fool you – I’m adorable…

I only weigh 18lbs…cute and tiny!

Cat

I’ve Been Adopted!

Gender: Female

Age: 4-5  years

Cat is a little sweetheart. She is a bit apprehensive when she first meets you. She will run up to you with her tail wagging but will then run away. But after a week she has gotten very comfortable in our home. Now she even cuddles when we are watching TV.

Cat gets along with her foster brothers and sister. And she loves running around the yard, checking things out. She loves to play and will run after toys if you throw them. Even though she is around 4 years old, she has a lot of puppy in her. I have to watch shoes and TV remotes. And the one day she carried her food bowl into the dining room, without spilling any food on the floor. Guess she preferred not to eat in the kitchen. She is a very comical little girl to have around.

Cat has not had an accident in the house and has kept her crate clean. I have let her have free roam of the house when I am home.

She is a wonderful little girl who would be a welcome addition to a loving family.

Cat is a 4-5 yrs old female, fully vetted, stray at Amelia shelter, a little on the shy side but very cute, good with other dogs.  She is pretty playful and wants to be friendly but needs a little more confidence.

Little Man

Little Man

I’ve Been Adopted!

Gender: Male

Age: 6-7 months

NEW!!! Little Man came to us around 3 weeks ago. For the first couple of days he was a little unsure about his surroundings and would run away from my husband and I when we tried to get near. He is now starting to feel more comfortable with us and comes to us most of the time. He especially loves his tummy rub and butt scratched in the mornings. I have a beagle puppy around the same age and this has helped Little Man tremendously in learning how to be a happy outgoing puppy. The two of them play, sleep and eat together and he has quickly learned the routine. He is very smart and has a wonderful submissive sweet personality, and he is at a perfect age where he just needs to be filled with all the right information to grow up and become a wonderful pet. Because he has spend his short life surrounded by only dogs, he is very reliant on my puppy so he would need to go to a home where the adopter has another dog. I have never encounter this with a 7 month old but this little guy came to us fully house trained. He has not had one accident in the house and lets us know when he needs to go potty. I also do make sure that when I am around he goes out every hour or so but he will go out through the dog door for bathroom time if he needs to. Little Man goes to doggie daycare with my puppy Tuesdays and Thursdays. This has really helped build his confidence and given him the opportunity to play with other dogs, which he loves and to meet new people. Monday, Wednesday and Friday we have a dog walker come to the house around mid day to take Little Man and my puppy for a walk. On those days they are crated together and he does not mind being in the crate as long as he has his buddy around. Little Man has never chewed anything in the house other than doggie chews I have given him. He also isn’t food crazy, I actually have to wait for him to finish his food as he is a very slow eater and if not monitored, my little one will steal his food. Little Man will make a wonderful additional to any family with a pet, he just needs a little extra TLC but what puppy doesn’t at that

LittleMan is a cute little 6-7mth old male beagle that is a little unsure about things right now.  He was abandoned with Kudos in South Boston, VA.  Kudos has taken great care of this little beagle boy.  He has a cheerful nature but needs a little TLC to build his confidence.
