I’m available!
Age: 3-4 years
Gender: Female
January 26, 2013: Leah first came to us in early September, 2012. She was adopted in December but was returned in January, 2013. The adopter was unable to deal with the steps necessary to the retraining of an adult dog.
Leah is a young adult beagle. She is very active and agile and is interested in everything around her. She thinks it her duty to explore everywhere. Although ~30 lbs she still wants to be a lap dog and will happily cuddle.
Leah is very affectionate with people and other dogs. She loves to roll around on her back and her long legs flail around with abandon. She wants to play and will grab anything she can get and run away, hoping someone will follow her. Her two foster sisters are seniors and couch potatoes that either ignore her or send her away most of the time; she doesn’t give up but keeps going back to try for playtime
She has not yet been tested with children. Given she doesn’t seem to recognize her own strength, she should not be around smaller children without constant supervision. Leah will stay in the crate but doesn’t like it and has to be urged to go into it. Once there she is quiet as long as there is someone around; if I leave she tends to howl and bark.
Leah is food driven; she is learning to sit for her meals and treats and will follow me while I feed the other dogs, then follow back into the kitchen for her food. She is not above grabbing food from any source and is a typical beagle in that respect. Leah is very smart and if bored can get into trouble.
We have a dog door into a fenced back yard and Leah likes being able to go out at will. She was housetrained when she came here and had accidents only when I wasn’t paying attention to her signals. She will walk and do bathroom chores on the leash. She wants to check out everything around her and needs leash training. She likes riding in the car in her crate.
While we don’t know where Leah came from, she was immediately at home in the house; none of the normal household noises bother her. She is not afraid of thunder and is good when my resident senior beagle gets scared. Leah likes to sleep on the bed or cuddle up in the numerous dog beds where she can see the household.
Leah will make a great addition to a couple or family who are active and willing to spend time with her.
Leah is a 3-4yr old black/tan female that is fully vetted. She is friendly and good with other dogs but was a stray in Madison Co. so her history is unknown.

I’ve been adopted!
Age: 3-4 years old
Gender: Female
UPDATE: My name is Bailey and lovin’ is in my blood. I am a beautiful girl at three years old. I am crate trained and can hold it all for over 9 hours. I am housebroken and go to the backdoor when I need to go out. I am a quiet girl, but have a very deep bark like a big dog when someone knocks on the door. I just love people and show my excitement with a smile on my face and love in my big beautiful brown eyes all the while thumping my tail in sheer delight. I love walking, but am low key in the house and great in the car. My foster mom thinks I would be good with children. I am hanging out with my foster mom and her sweet Doberman, Gypsy, and Hunter the Beagle. My foster mom tells me I am one cool little house guest. This is great, but I long for my own family. I have so much love to share – could that be you?
Bailey is a 3-4yr old tri-color female that is fully vetted. She is friendly and good with other dogs but was a stray in Culpeper, VA so her history is unknown.

Update 3/6/12 Bisquick is a happy, playful little doll. She has settled into a daily routine which is topped off at night by exurberant play — dashing around with her foster brother, tossing and tugging on her stuffed toys! After all that exhausting play, she likes to sit next her adoring “humans” on the couch, or at their feet, snuggled up close. And wonder of wonders: She has learned to “do her business” outside. No accidents in the house for a week! She is amazingly smart, sweet natured and gentle. She is less and less worried about the noises and people outdoors on the walk but still has that nose-to-the-ground beagle-on-the-hunt posture. It is so great to see her having fun, maybe for the first time in her life!
Update for 2-27: What a difference a day makes! Bisquick is running up and down the stairs and all around, romping with my tubby male beagle, Buddy, who could use the exercise. They are tossing toys and playing wildly and having a great time. Bisquick has come out of her shell!
Update 2-26: A lot of TLC has paid off for Bisquick! She is so much more relaxed inside the house and out. She comes to her food bowl and water without prompting and plays out in the yard without the intense anxiety she had last week. She is learning how to relax on the leash and enjoy the great outdoors. She is still quite alert to cars and loud noises and strangers, but she has greatly improved from a week ago. She also has kept her crate clean for several days, and now has hours on end when she can be trusted to lie around with her foster brother, outside her crate.
Bisquick will be a sweet loving family member in a calm home with a yard where she can romp and play like a beagle!
Holy cow is Bisquick adorable! I mean, seriously, how do beagles actually get this cute?
Bisquick is doing really well! She loves the comfort of her cozy crate and goes in without prompting. She is so cuddly and sweet natured; she has not made a sound yet, not a bark or whine or anything. She sleeps quietly all night in her crate, which is clean in the morning. She loves to be petted and will sit in front of me and wag her tail now, which she wouldn’t do at first because she was so shy.
She loves to go outside and has that typical nose-to-the-ground beagle walk. She is a little skittish still, sensitive and alert to people and sounds around her. She is comfortable in the house, but outside she is clearly afraid of cars and loud noises and other people. She is comforted when I stop and pull her closer and pet her when she gets scared.
Bisquick will need a quiet environment with reassurance and love in her permanent home. She is as smart as she can be. Boy, is she quick to learn! But more than that, she is so easy to love.

I’ve been adopted!
Age: 6ish
Gender: Female
Update for 8/10: Maggie is back with BREW after being returned for getting in the trashcan.
Uh, newsflash: this is WHAT BEAGLES DO! If you want a beagle, you need to be prepared to move your trashcan. OR don’t get a beagle.
Update for 3/27:
Maggie has lost 4lbs and is down to 34lbs. She’s looking great! She loves to go on walks and does well on a leash.
Maggie was a stray found in the woods in WV back in November. Some campers found her wandering . She is super sweet and friendly. Loves everybody and is crate-trained. Her original rescuers say she is housetrained.
Maggie needs to lose about 15lbs. She’s got hypothyroidism (low thyroid) so she’s carrying extra weight on her small frame. The medication to control her thyroid is unbelievably INexpensive.

I’ve Been Adopted!
Age: 2ish
Gender:Female
Google is a precious girl. She came to me skinny, losing hair from malnutrition and taking meds for lyme disease. I put her on puppy food and fish oil for her skin. She slept for the 1st two weeks and I was beginning to think she had lost her spirit. She was just getting better when the 4 beagles(my two and Luke, who’s been adopted and Google) surrounded a groundhog. Only Google was bitten on her ear before I got a hold on them and the groundhog escaped. Delaware state law required that she receive another rabies shot(she had just had one in January) and was quarantined for 45 days. She could go out on a leash, but she was not available for adoption until after April 12th, which is the end of her quarantine. Google is now available for adoption. Since then, Google has regained her spirit. She is a happy 3-4 year old beagle girl. She had some dental work done this (teeth cleaned and some pulled). She is so much fun. She is a little skittish while walking if cars pass or large trucks. She definitely does not like traffic. She is quiet in the house and learned the routine quickly. She knows when it’s time to eat and when to go to bed. She is house broken and enjoys playing with other dogs. She is friendly with people and enjoys children. Her favorite thing is eating and getting treats. She is learning not to jump up to get her treats. She knows SIT, but doesn’t always obey. She knows OFF and responds to that better. I do not need to crate her while I am away, however, she likes to get into the crate with the door open to rest. She is not a chewer, but enjoys rawhides and other appropriate chews. She is a gentile little girl, but shy about giving kisses. She does enjoy having her belly rubbed and being scratched behind the ears. We had to work up to this because she was not used to being petted. She now will come and ask for attention. She has been great with my dogs, my daughter’s dog and my dog walker’s dog and with our latest foster, Crusoe. She is a very friendly beagle and loves to run and play with all the dogs. She will stand at the fence and bark at Bennie next door. She just can’t figure out why another beagle won’t come over and play. She has tried digging, but only when Bennie is out.She enjoys counter surfing, but just say “off” and she gets down. I think she would benefit from obedience classes, as she wants to please you so much. I know she is a quick learner and a truly special girl. She can be a little skittish with loud noises that surprise her. I have found that ignoring the noise and her, results in a quick recovery.

I came in with my sister who is also with BREW. I had x-rays and my right femur is badly broken in two places. The shelter’s vet recommended amputation – but BREW can do better!
Super Vet Dr. Campbell will be pinning my leg back together so I can keep it. The surgery and post-op care will be expensive. Will you help BREW with a donation towards my care? All donors will be listed here on my page and all donations are tax-deductible.
I am a super sweet and very cute little girl. Pssst – I only weigh 16lbs!
Check back here for updates on me.

This little tiny beagle/basset mix weighs in at just 20lbs! She’s super nice, mellow, and quiet. She’s been tested with cats and passed!
She was saved by a wonderful group in WV when a shelter up there decided it was euthanizing ALL the animals because the caregiver of the shelter was tired of caring for them. Clementine is one lucky dog! Make her lucky twice over by giving her the home she deserves!
