I've Been Adopted!

UPDATE - 30 OCTOBER 2016: If the question is: How do you pack all that handsome into one dog, the answer is Starman! He has a beautiful, floaty way of moving with his tail held high and his ears at least two inches off the ground. The first night he was with us, we put him in the kitchen so he couldn't move around too much, and he howled and moaned! So he got a Melatonin in a peanut butter kong, with some dog calming music on and all the lights off, and he snuggled right in and went to sleep all night. That was the last time he made much noise at all.  Starman likes to be in the center of activity, and he gets along well with the other dogs. He likes to play but is very respectful when the others tell him to back off. Starman will poop and pee while on the leash but needs some more work on housetraining.

First Impressions: Meet Starman!  He is a 3-year-old beagle/basset.  This handsome guy is friendly and laid back, slow moving with his nose to the ground.  He was an owner give-up to the Clumberland Co. because he no longer wanted him for hunting.  He will be available soon.  Stay tuned to learn more about him.

  1. Hi,

I’m interested in Starman but have a couple questions. Do you think he would thrive in a home with one adult and a 13 year old kid, no pets, in a condo? Does Starman howl often?
    Thank you for your time.

Hi, again, Cherry – I touched base with Starman’s foster mom, and here’s what she said in response to your questions, “He will howl when we walk out on him but quiets eventually. He might do ok alone but he really likes having his buds to play with, so as a lone dog is possible but not ideal.” It is a busy time of year for us, so keep an eye on the website for other possibilities as we post new dogs and move them into foster homes.

  2. Do you have apx measurements (height at shoulder, length) for starman, and his current weight?

    • Erin

Hi, Brandi – Starman’s foster mom says that Starman is 15 inches tall, 22 inches long with 7 inch ears.

  3. Oh my goodness, I just want to scoop him up in my arms!

  4. Very interested in adopting this pup! Please contact me either by email or at [NUMBER REMOVED FOR PRIVACY]

Hello, David. Please go ahead and fill out an application if you are still interested in Starman or any of our other beagles. You can learn more about our application and adoption process HERE. Thank you for your interest!

  5. We are Basset Lovers. We have had many rescue Bassets over the years, always living to age 14+!!! Our most recent Basset, Clarabelle, died of Kidney Failure October 3, 2016. We are broken, hearts ache, beyond sad, and our Tabby cat is still sitting in Clara’s “spot” on the front porch daily, where she and Clara sat side by side waiting for visitors.
Our Lemon Basset Hound, age 10-rescue from Las Vegas, NV, will no longer even go outside to the bathroom without one of us taking him. He is lost too.
WE WANT STARMAN. WE ARE GOOD, LOVING, RESPONSIBLE,, RETIRED PEOPLE!!!!!
We know he’s Beagle/Basset, and that is fine with us.
We now live in Sosua Dominican Republic. We believe we are “Mid-Atlantic” as it’s all around us.
Airlines Air Transit allows dogs in flight; I will find out more in a few minutes about the airline. BUT it is cool enough to crate and ship Starman.
WE WILL FILL OUT ALL/ANY PAPERWORK FOR STARMAN!!! MAY WE PLEASE LOVE THIS DOG TIL THE END OF TIME.

    Sincerely, Andrea and Phil

Hello, Andrea and Phil – I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. You sound like wonderful pet owners, but you are unfortunately very far out of our adoption area. We are based in Virginia, USA, and work with adopters here and in nearby states. Our application process requires a home check, and we do not ship dogs. I hope that you will be able to find a rescue closer to you. Good luck!

  6. Starman Looks perfect for our household . Does he get along well with other animals. We have a cat and Starman could be a perfect companion for her.
