CiCi the Love of a Senior Beagle
Vicki and Sean

CiCi (adopted in 2001 at age 9)

CiCi was in bad shape when she came to BREW. At 9 years old, she had spent many years getting improper care. She was heartworm positive with missing teeth and cataracts. She was overweight and resembled what her foster parents affectionately called, a pot-bellied pig. She was not the type of dog that most would consider adoptable with health problems and old age working against her, but CiCi was given a second chance.

We met CiCi at Beaglefest in October, 2001. This sweet little girl was content to just lay down in the middle of our circle as we spoke to her foster mom about her and fawned over her. We knew that CiCi would be a perfect dog for us. Admittedly couch potatoes ourselves, we did not want a dog that needed too much exercise and we were looking for a sweet calm dog to cuddle and love.

Almost three years after adopting CiCi, we have not once questioned our decision to adopt a senior dog. And as we went on to become foster parents for BREW, the only thing we ask is why anyone would want to take home a puppy when they could adopt a sweet, older dog. It is so rewarding to give the senior dogs a second chance and help them find a forever home. We are so grateful to BREW and CiCi's loving foster parents, Judy and Chuck, for giving her a chance for a better life. Even though our time with CiCi may not be as long as we would like, we are happy for every day we have with her.

And now we know that with every senior dog we bring into our home to foster, we are enabling another family to have that same feeling of gratitude. Because without BREW, these wonderful older companions would never have a chance.
