Ann Duquaine

Hi, my name is Casey! My mom adopted me on March 26, 2006. Even though it's only been a short time, my mom just doesn't know how she got by without me in her life. My mom (and my older beagle brothers, Ernie and Alex) sometimes call me "Casey at Bat" because my overall enthusiasm for life sometimes drives the rest of the family a little "batty". But, I also bring a lot of fun and laughter into our family life and my mom and brothers love me a lot. I love them too! I just graduated (summa cum howling) from obedience school the other night. During our graduation class, we played Doggy Musical Chairs and I came in third place! My mom was so proud of me! So what if there were only three dogs playing, my mom is proud of me no matter what! My mom put my diploma in a frame and it's hanging in the living room for everyone to see. In a few weeks I'm going to start Canine Good Citizen class. I can't wait until I become a Canine Good Citizen because I figure that, as a good citizen, I will probably be able to vote! Then, we'll finally get a beagle in the White House! I think that's definitely what this country needs!

to go for lots of walks with the family and I have a great grandma and grandpa who come over a lot. They love me too and I love them! I'm a really silly fellow and I make my mom very happy. I love to play with my brothers and I'm really nice with my oldest brother, Ernie, who is 11 years old. If I get too rough, he lets me know and I don't bother him them. I love to take a flying leap off the couch and jump on my other brother's head! He's only 8 years old so he doesn't mind so much when I want to play chase or wrestle with him. We have lots of good times. One neat thing my mom does for us is that we go for lots of walks - at least three everyday! And, we always get a treat when we come home. Sometimes, we get biscuits and, at night, my mom throws out a bunch of little baby carrots for us to munch on. At first I didn't quite understand the whole carrot thing but mom explained to me that, if I have carrot breath, I might attract some bunnies to the yard so that I could chase them. So far, the bunny part isn't working but after a tentative tasting of the carrots, now I munch them down as quickly as I can. I've brought much laughter and happiness into the lives of my mom, brothers, and grandparents and I'm a happy guy too now that I have a forever family. My mom wants to share the following poem with BREW because it reminds her of me. The poem is called "The Gift" and the author is J.M. Berry.

Eyes fearful, paws worn,
A sorrowful sight,
So forlorn.

Love they said would be the cure,
For the suffering,
You had endured.

So our family grew that day,
We brought you home,
With us you'd stay.

Slowly, gently, the bond it grew,
Faithful, loyal,
Loving, true.

Looking back, it's so unclear,
How we got by,
Without you here.

Faithful companion,
Devoted friend,
You give and give,
It never ends.

They said we were a gift to you,
But now we know,
Who rescued who.

So, thanks BREW for helping me find my forever home. My mom and brothers thank you too!

Love, wags, and kisses,
Casey
