Autumn Becomes a Full Blown Rose PDF Print E-mail
Sanya and Mat Weathers

Long update: Autumn is already a vastly different dog from Sunday night. I can't believe it. It was like putting a rosebud into sugar water - she poofed out into a full blown rose almost overnight.

She is enthusiastic and happy, and has taken to going for walks like a duck to water. That hind end never stops wagging. She's eating dinner, but not breakfast yet. The girls aren't "playing" together just yet, but the racing around the house in a pack thing is happening. She comes when called and sits so quietly for brushing and harnessing. She loves her dog bed, and thumps her behind down with great authority.

She's definitely a little shadow and the best ever snuggle hound, as advertised. About the only thing that has turned out to be very different from your experience is her noise level. She bays, she snorts, she grunts, she sneezes, and she even cheeps like a bird. The only noise I haven't heard is a bark!

We decided that we'd try her out of the crate yesterday - leaving the two girls in their dog beds in the kitchen, blocked off with the baby gate. Last night we were greeted at the door by Autumn. The baby gate was still up, but it looked like a dozen beagles had romped through the place. Best we can tell she got on the couch, tossed around the throw pillows, shed fur onto the coffee and end tables, jumped onto the back of the couch, from there to the drafting table, slid down the angled tabletop taking the papers with her, hit the chair, and knocked it over. For whatever reason she did not get on the bed.

On the bright side, she did not pee anywhere despite ample opportunity.

When we stared at her, wondering how such a tiny dog had done all that, she raced to the baby gate... and squeezed back into the kitchen. That's how we discovered that the fourth, lower right "foot" on our gate was broken, even if the other three corners are secure. The resulting "give" in the gate is too little for Jackie to get through, but plenty for Autumn.

Only a beagle, I swear.
