Thanksgiving weekend 2003, we left our NJ home to look at some BREW puppies in Baltimore, MD. A little lemon-colored beagle name Nelly stole our hearts. She became fast friends with our beagle, Hokulea who is one-year older. We decided to name her Nalani, which means calm wind in Hawaiian.

We sometimes wonder if we misnamed her. She has done so many wonderful puppy-things this past year -- chewed the sofa, chewed the bedroom carpeting, ate a stick of solid deodorant and finds Christmas ornaments to be quite delicious. All is forgiven when she looks at us with her beautiful brown eyes and cuddles up next to us.
