Wayne and Sarah Smith

Annie, once known as Zanzibar, came to BREW as a 9-year-old beagle who had been bred all her life and most likely lived outdoors on a heavy chain. She had Lyme disease and erlichiosis when she arrived, and her body was worn out from years and years of being a mom. She was tired! BREW got her shots, and medication for her illness, and a loving foster home to help her recover. And slowly, she did. Annie was adopted by a wonderful young couple after only 2 months in foster care. They drove from Boston to Maryland to meet her and bring her home. Here is their story:

Annie (formerly Zanzi) has become an integral part of our family. She is such an incredible little Beagle. She very quickly adapted to our home and the Boston area. Annie is fully housetrained, and I'm proud to report that she hasn't had one accident in the nearly three months that we've had her. Her personality is developing more and more each day. She is extremely well behaved and loves her long walks. I also might add that her favorite activity is chasing squirrels in Harvard Yard. . . ok, maybe that's her second favorite activity (snoozing on the couch). Sarah and I love spending time with Annie and take every opportunity to bring her all around town.

Finally, anyone who said that you can't teach an old dog new tricks never met our smart little Annie. Within three weeks she learned to "sit" and "shake". We're working on some new commands as time goes on.
