We have a happy ending we would like to share! We adopted Peony (who we renamed "Penny") almost one year ago. She had been raised at a lab research facility until Brew rescued the "flower" girls" in Spring 2002. When we met Peony she was being fostered with a few other friends and she seemed to be quite a happy little girl - if a bit timid! Our challenge was this - we'd lost one of our 2 beloved beagles to kidney disease just before the holidays 2001 and Tucker (Penny’s new brother!) was so forlorn we feared that he wouldn't make it through Xmas last year. We realize that adopting in a hurry is never a good idea but believe me, my husband and I just knew by all his sad howling and crying that poor Tucker badly needed a buddy to heal his broken heart!

Well, it wasn't very long before we found our little Penny from Heaven! We think she came to us just in the nick of time! She is fast as can be and gives Tucker the workout of a lifetime running around our fully fenced yard (that's her in front with him trying to keep up). As luck has it our neighbors have beagles too so you can imagine the racket they all make when they see a squirrel! Penny is learning to howl and will do so if you prompt her to but it sounds more like a high pitched ghosts "woooOOOooo" than a beagles traditional baying! She loves car rides and walks on leash. She's still a bit afraid of new people but she makes progress every day! She has come a long way from the pup who didn't even know what toys were! She loves to cuddle, and has a habit of stealing socks and delicates from the laundry basket - our back yard sometimes looks like a linen closet with towels, undies, of every color on the lawn! Penny can be found on these chilly winter days curled up in the "sunny spot" on our bed or sitting next to her "dad" contentedly munching a rawhide "sticky" with Tucker keeping a close eye on her as all big brothers do. Penny has been a gift to us - she makes us laugh with her happy disposition and we're all grateful to BREW for bringing us a little piece of heaven - our girl Penny!
