Piccolo was born and raised in a laboratory research facility, where she had several litters of her own that were then used to test animal vaccines. She, her friend Oboe, and their daughters, the “flower girls,” came to BREW in early 2002. These beagles had never known homes, family life, or the love that they deserved before they came to BREW. Now they do, and they are thriving. Piccolo’s new Mom wrote us recently with an update:

Piccolo is doing wonderful. She is absolutely the princess of the house now and getting bossier everyday. She is such a good girl. She loves to cuddle and takes turns at night curling up against me or my husband. Like most beagles, she is very food oriented, and if we "forget" to give her a treat, we are gently reminded. She really doesn't bark, although lately she is vocalizing more. She has a really unique sound she makes when she is happy...kind of like a squeaky yawn. And when she wants something she kind of woofs, which is the closest she gets to a real bark. She has learned to run up and down stairs so fast we can hardly keep up with her and she loves going for long walks around the neighborhood. She has been to Cape Cod on a 2 week vacation and really enjoyed the cottage-life. The only problem we've had is that she still gets car sick very easily. We've tried using a special doggie car seat, putting her in the front, in the back, giving her Dramamine, giving her an herbal anti-anxiety pill...but nothing works. It makes me kind of sad because we went to Michigan for a week at Thanksgiving and we had to board her because I just knew she couldn't tolerate a 10-hour+ car ride. Piccolo is so friendly...she loves everyone she meets and wants most people to pet her, if not pick her up. She gets along well with other dogs when she encounters them on her walks. We are so very pleased and lucky to have her. I'm sending you a picture of Piccolo that my husband took on her favorite naptime spot with one of her toys. Piccolo also has started to tell us when it's time to go to bed. She paces and whines and if we don't come upstairs with her, she jumps on the sofa and knocks all the pillows off with her head. A little hissy fit! I find myself in bed these days before 9:00pm...just because I love cuddling with her.
