I was first introduced to BREW Beagles through a neighbor who had rescued a young female beagle. I was interested in getting a dog for companionship, and began searching on the website. I was looking for an older dog since I live in an apartment, and it would not be fair to a more energetic dog to have such a limited space. Hence, I found "Popeye" aka "Pascal" aka "Cal". I went to the adoption day after speaking with Susan and Curt (Cal's foster parents) by phone. When I saw him he was literally the ONLY beagle just sitting there, not jumping, barking, or begging for a treat. Don't get me wrong, that is what makes dogs so great, but there was just something very special about him. So, a few days later Susan and Curt dropped Cal (as he is now known) off at my apartment. The first couple of months were an adjustment. Cal was abused and, before BREW, not well taken care of, so he was a very scared little guy. However, he soon grew comfortable and found his niche. Though he still sometimes displays signs of his abuse, he is a very happy dog. He LOVES walks, sniffing the other dogs in the neighborhood, and exploring every inch of grass with his nose! He is a beagle after all!

Though I may have given Cal a safe home, he has given much more to me. He has been a loyal companion in a very rough time in my life. He always greets me when I come home from work with a wagging tail and nudges from his nose. Although he may not be an energetic and cuddly dog, he shows his loyalty in other ways. There was a time when I was so sick I asked my parents to come over and walk him, and he would not leave the apartment because he knew there was something wrong. I take care of him and he takes care of me. Cal now has been having seizures, and his vet and I will continue to help him. Otherwise, Cal is a very healthy and happy dog. I can't imagine what would have happened to him had he not been rescued. BREW is a wonderful organization that not only helps beagles, but beagle owners as well. I am very grateful for Susan and Curt, and the rest of the "BREW Family". They have given countless beagles another chance, and this beagle owner, a loyal companion.
