Grace Dances Out of Her Shell

Whitney Kuebert

We just celebrated our one-year anniversary with Grace. What a year it has been! When we first met Grace she was a shy, quite girl. When we first picked her up, she tried to lunge from my arms to get back inside the pen with the other beagles. She was so timid during those first few days that we had to create a food trail to her food bowl in order to entice her out of her crate to eat. Then we took her to obedience classes and by helping her to gain some confidence, we managed to unlock the wonderful girl inside. Now we are greeted every morning by the ‘puppy dance’ that consists of Grace enthusiastically wagging her tail and licking my husband’s face while standing on his chest. While my husband would prefer a more subtle morning greeting, I know he secretly enjoys the attention. Grace has proven herself to be a true beagle in the last year. From the mischievous trouble she manages to get in, to the bottomless tummy, to the endless loves she shares, Grace has a way of turning a bad day into a great one. No matter how bad my day at work has been, Grace is always there to greet me with a toy, whimpers of excitement and a tail wagging so hard she can barely walk. Grace has shown that even though we don’t know her past, she is quite happy where she is. Thanks to BREW saving this little girl and allowing us to share our lives together.
