One day I was at the vet and I saw the cutest little beagle! I went up to it and his owner said,” Don’t go too fast, he's a rescue dog and is a little afraid of people". I said to her, "What's a rescue dog?”, and that’s how I learned about BREW.
With my last daughter scheduled to go off to college last September, Knew it was time to get my beagle; also our cocker spaniel, Chloe, needed a companion since she would now be alone all day while I worked. I wanted a dog the same size as my cocker, not too big and not too small.

I looked on the BREW website and read all the bios of the dogs, then I decided to go to a Beaglefest in the spring of 2002 and see them for myself. I went and stayed a long time just looking at the available dogs and seeing which one might fit in our household. Then I saw Cabana. My 2 criteria were that she have a gentle temperament and be on the small side, and Cabana fit both. I watched her for a long time and she was gentle, loving, trusting, went to everyone and never barked once. I knew that was my dog!

I brought Cabana home and the first dilemma was her name. Three daughters wanted to change the name to Casey and one wanted to keep it Cabana. So we decided to name her Casey Cabana!

I've had Casey for over a year now and she is truly a member of the family. Never has there been a more loving, precious dog. I can't believe that someone gave her away, or worse, abused her. I think she had been abused somewhat because if you raise your voice the poor thing curls around herself in a little ball terrified, its truly pitiful. I adopted Casey right out of the shelter, she had just come up from Southern VA and BREW really didn't know anything about her past. I've often wondered what her life was like, and think she must think she died and went to heaven now that she is so loved and petted, sleeps in the bed with her head on the pillow, is groomed and has her teeth brushed, and gets doggie chew sticks every day! She is EVERYTHING I ever wanted in a dog; she has adapted to our cocker and 2 cats very nicely. She had somewhat of an adjustment at first. She was only partially housebroken and snapped at others if they got too near her food. I imagine she was used to having to survive, so we went slowly and she has truly now become part of the family. On our daily walks she goes up to everyone to be loved and no one can believe she was a stray that nobody wanted at one time.

Casey Cabana is a daily joy and bundle of love. If you're thinking of adopting I strongly encourage you to do so, I'm surely glad I did!
