It has been almost 7 months to the day, that I adopted Buck at the 2002 Spring Beaglefest. I cannot tell you what a difference Bucky has made in my life. I had a beagle/dachshund mix that I had put to sleep on February 18, 2002. I had Maxwell from September 1985 until February 2002. I knew that Max was suffering and even though I knew he had a good long life, the decision to put him down was a very difficult one to make. I not only felt like I had lost my best friend, I knew that I had. I spent about a month and half without a pet and coming home to a lonely house after work. All my friends kept saying, enjoy not having a commitment and being able to shop after work and come home when you get ready to. So for a while, I did. I couldn't stand it any longer. Through the Internet, I learned about BREW and I was truly impressed. I went to an adoption day in Bel Air at Petco and filled out papers. I had my home visit and began to look at the adoptable beagles on the Internet. I went to Beaglefest with the intention of adopting and I was half in love with a beagle named Vegas. Laura began to discourage me from adopting Vegas because he was loud (and I live in an apartment) and probably too active for me, he was a hand- full, but soooooo cute. My mom, who went to Beaglefest with me, spotted a beagle with a yellow scarf and asked me, who is that? I looked at his tag and it read Buck. From the Internet site, I knew a little about Buck's story, in that he was with the same family from the time he was a puppy. They moved and couldn't or wouldn't take him with them. They gave him to the Humane Society in Berkley Springs, WVA. The Humane Society was going to put him to sleep, but called BREW who went and got him. What a lucky day that was for Mr. Buck Man. When I went to Beaglefest and met Buck, what a lucky day it was for me. Mr. Buck Man or Bucky Buck, which he is sometimes known as, has totally and completely taken charge of my apartment and every piece of furniture in it. He has his own personal blanket and likes to be covered with it. He is the sweetest, most loving and well-mannered dog that I have ever owned. He does not jump on people, or lick them. He sits there politely waiting for you to notice him. I am just absolutely crazy about him. My whole family loves Bucky and he get along well with my sister's two beagles. When I come home from work, he goes crazy. He runs round and round, barks, whines and comes and sits as close to me as he can get so I can talk to him and he can talk to me. I pet him and kiss on him for a while and he actually moans like he is in heaven. He is a wonderful dog and has brought such joy to my life. Thanks BREW for bringing Bucky and I together. He is my best friend.
