I’d like to tell you about my dog, Sherman. My son found the BREW beagle web site because my 18 yr. old beagle, Maggie had died about five months ago and our remaining beagle, Pogo was lonely. Laura Johnson told me that they had a special beagle, Sherman, who had been in his foster home for four months, but she thought I would like him. When I went to meet him, I liked him, but he was terrified of me, he peed on the deck when I reached down to pet him. He obviously had been very badly abused. For the first month at our house, he lived outside, barking at us through the French doors. But, slowly, he made his way through the dog door, into the house, then into the kitchen to eat with Pogo, then up to the bedroom --- and you should see him now. He sleeps on the bed every night. He’s so happy that he actually smiles all the time. When his foster mom, Rita, gave him to me, she included a special whistle so if he escaped he would come back. Well – after two months we never used the whistle again because Sherman is the only beagle I’ve ever seen who comes when he’s called!! He loves riding in the car, he loves to play with his toys, and he likes visiting my horse – he likes horses and other dogs much better than most people. He’s also Mr. August in the 2002 BREW Beagle Calendar. He loves both my grown sons – it took over six months for him to let Michael touch him, and over a year for Daniel, who comes home less frequently. We’ve had him for fourteen months now and Sherman is the light of our life!
