We had a beagle, Bailey (tri-color), who was four years old and seemed to need a companion. All she did all day was sleep and eat (yes, characteristic of a beagle, I know). In November of 2001, we were speaking with the people from BREW expressing our desire for another dog and discussing a personality that would be a good fit. In December, we were informed of a potential two-year old match, Ginger (formerly, Blondie). When we saw the photo of her, we fell in love. Her foster mother informed us that she had been abused and neglected. She was only 19 pounds and had also just had puppies. Nonetheless, we had to meet her.

Ginger came home with us and did nothing but sleep and eat for over a week. She paid little attention to Bailey. At that point, we thought we had two listless beagles. It turns out, Ginger little energy to play, due to the years of neglect. Although she had improved in foster care, she was still not 100%. After a few weeks of TLC, she livened up and became the instigator of many doggy wrestling matches. The two dogs play wonderfully together and Ginger has been a joy to have in our home. Since she has been here, she has gained seven pounds (up to 26 now). The vet says that is plenty. Although she is still a bit nervous, she appears to feel secure in our home. She is still somewhat wary of strangers and other dogs, but show us her affection with lots of kisses during evenings spent on the couch. She also enjoys napping in our bed and chasing Bailey all over the rooms with new hardwood floors. To all of the volunteers at BREW, thank you for finding us such a wonderful addition to our family.
