The Beagle Diaries II - The Southern Belles

I promised I'd have another session of Beagle Camp at some point in the future. More recently, I said I'd have a Camp after my current foster dog got adopted. This was just a few weeks before Beaglefest. I heard that BREW rescued four gorgeous beagle girls from Nelson County, (Julep, Tara, Dixie, and Georgia) and that they needed a foster home. I saw their pictures, and showed them to Pam. She agreed that we should have another Beagle Camp. And so, I planned. I made a list of the things I'd need: lots of newspaper, some heavy plastic drop cloths, paper drop cloths with plastic backing, masking tape, crates, towels, toys, bowls, puppy chow, psychiatric examination... . I thought that my foster dog might get adopted at Beaglefest, so I planned to take off the Friday before and the Monday after, so that I could get the house ready for the next session of Campers, plus I had doctor's appointments on both those days (for a sinus infection - YES, I did have to get my head examined). Well, we ALL know what happens to even the best made plans. We had to go to West Virginia over the weekend, which meant that we left right after Beaglefest, and came back on Monday, in time for me to get to the doctor, and also to have enough time to pick up the puppies. Needless to say, nothing on my list was accomplished. The house is totally NOT ready to start Beagle Camp.

After I got back from the doctor at 4PM, I made a mad rush around the house to get as much ready as possible because we were going to get the girls. I cleared the kitchen floor, but that's as far as I got, because I wanted to try to beat rush hour traffic to get to the kennel before it closed. Even though Pam's not feeling well, she decides she wants to come along, so, off we went, with the crates in the car - one of the few times I've ever used crates for transporting (and it was a good thing, too!) The traffic wasn't too bad. We got there in plenty of time. I walked back into the kennel, and I met four of the most gorgeous beagle puppies I've ever seen - soft silky ears, cute little snuffles, baby barks and quiet whimpers...and when they saw the gate open, they broke into the happiest puppy howls, dancing and jumping to be held and petted. They were SO happy to be sprung from their "prison" they covered our faces and hands with beagle kisses. And there's not much in this world that beats a baby beagle kiss!
