Promise - Crossed the Bridge

Age: 9 years

Gender: Female

Adoption Day Info:

10/29/09
It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that Promise crossed the Bridge tonight. The tumor on her spleen had grown tremendously in the last week and this morning she let me know that it was time to let her go. She passed peacefully, on her blanket, with her head touching my leg. Dr. Winnie said that she had one of the best personalities of any dog he has ever met.

We will miss her.

Elaine R. Taillon
Co-Director, BREW Midwest

Update: 9/12/09

As many of you know, Promise's mammary cancer has been in remission for almost a year. However, she has not been feeling well these last two weeks. She is having liver problems resulting in jaundice and extremely high liver values. She seemed to be feeling better the last few days but in order to try to determine what is causing the problems; we did an ultrasound on her. Unfortunately, the ultrasound revealed that she has a mass on her spleen and that her liver is abnormal, indicating that she is in liver failure, and the vets feel very confident that there are cancer cells in her liver as well.

In light of this diagnosis, she is no longer available for adoption and will remain with her current foster home as a permanent foster for as long as possible - as long as she is comfortable.

Promise has been with BREW for a year and I believe that this has probably been the best year of her life so far. Many, many thanks to all of you who have sponsored Promise. She is truly a wonderful little beagle. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Promise was turned in to a county dog pound by a private, large backyard beagle breeder in Ohio who drops off beagles he no longer has use for. Promise was one of 15 that he dropped off one day. She is about 9 years old and we believe she was used simply for breeding purposes all her life. We "promised" her when we rescued her that her life would be better from that day forward. One look in her eyes and you can see how grateful she is to have been given a second chance and she gives back more love than can ever be given to her. She loves people of all ages and wants nothing more than to be near them. She prances when walking on a leash, always holding her tail up high.
