Butch

I am available for adoption!

Age: 4-6 years

Gender: Male

Adoption Day Info:

Hi my name is Butch, but my foster parent’s call me Butchie since I am very sweet, gentle and loving. I was rescued by BREW from a shelter in Ohio. The two vets who evaluated me said my age is between 4 years and 6 years. However, everyone seems to think I am closer to 4 years old. I have been told that my energy level and playful antics mimic a younger dog. For example, I play with toys throughout the day. I like to flip my toys on and off the couch, and I love to chase balls around the floor. Squeak a toy, and I am at your feet. You will need to be careful with me, because I do not always understand that certain things are not my toys. However, I can be redirected easily. Another example of being young is that I get the “crazies” where I run around the house as fast as I can. My foster parents said it is very funny to watch me while I do this, since I am not graceful. I do settle down for a good portion of the day, and I like to nap on the couch or in a sun spot. My tail wags all day long except when I am sleeping.

What else do I like to do?!?!?!?! I like going for walks because there is so much to see. I walk well on a leash, but I will take time to sniff and to investigate. I have also found that my daily walk helps me to build up my confidence and to be less shy. I know it is hard to believe, but I am shy of people and animals I have not met. I eventually warm up, but I do need some time to make sure everyone is ok. Eating is another favorite thing for me. Did I tell you that I actually take the time to chew everything I am given to eat? I also take treats gently, so you don’t have to worry about your fingers with me.

I get along well with the resident Beagle and cat, but sometimes I forget that they don’t want to play as much as I do. Both of them will put me in my place when I get a little too rambunctious. I usually listen to them since they are older. Although there are no children in my home, I have shown no signs of aggression with my foster parent’s niece (age 8) or the numerous children in the neighborhood. In fact, I tend to warm up to children more quickly than adults.

I go into my crate easily, and I do not make much of a fuss once I am in there. I have not messed up my crate one time. I am in my crate during the day while my foster parents go to work (I do get a mid day potty break). The longest I have been in my crate was eight hours which was during the night when I first came to my foster home. I have proven to be trustworthy at night as long as I am in a bedroom with someone, so I sleep on a dog bed next to the bed.

After much hard work on my end, I can tell you that I am housebroken. I have not had an accident for a long time, and my foster parents are very proud of me. One thing that helped with my house training was to keep me on a routine potty schedule, and I may continue to need that for a little longer.

I am looking for a forever home that has dog experience, is willing to give me lots of love, is looking for a more active dog, and is not overly loud. My foster parents think I would do best going to a forever home that has another dog, preferably an adult female that is medium or low energy. If you think I am the one for you, please contact the good people at BREW. Time for me to go and play with my toys ……
