Tasso

I am available for adoption!

Age: 3-4 years

Gender: Male

Adoption Day Info:

08/06/10: Tasso contines to be a man's dog. He loves to go on walks and can keep up with a fast pace, or a leisurely stroll. He doesn't stop to sniff like many beagles do - so he is a great walking companion. He readily potties on lead (no marking, just a good long pee). Tasso would love to be man's best friend - someone who will take him on walks and enjoy a dog who loves to snuggle!

1/4/2010 Tasso seems to love men - he loves to launch himself up onto the couch as soon as my husgand sits down and he will squeeze himelf into whatever space is available! He is doing much better on finding the right things to chew. And, he is much better coming inside when my husband calls him than when I do. Maybe he is a man's man!

12/30/2009 Tasso is an interesting challenge. He is very aware of everything, to the most minute detail. For instance, I changed the door sweep weather-stripping on the main door out yesterday. He immediately noticed that the door made a different sound and was reluctant to come in past that newly threatening door. He did ultimately come in and is now fine with the door. But it takes patience and time when such situations arise. He also has a need to chew. He does very well when he is kept in rawhides and various toys. But if he runs out of appropriate chewies, he will find inappropriate chewies (shoes, clothes, books, boxes, etc.). He much prefers his toys, however!

When Tasso is inside with you - he is very affectionate. He loves to cuddle with you and is very low-energy in the house. He loves his walks and will dance when he sees the leash! He would probably be easiest if he was always leash walked - he wouldn't have his issues with the door, then.

We are not pushing crate training with him because he is doing well outside of the crate and can fail in the crate if he is at all stressed. He is also a bit noisy in the crate. He has a tremolo bark that is one part charming and three parts wearing. He is very aware of nearby sounds and activities and this will trigger some barking, so he wouldn't be good in an apartment.
For a dog experienced person, the challenge that Tasso offers (worrying about change and having some problems making transitions - like coming inside sometimes) will be offset by the immense loyalty and love this boy has to offer!

12/3/09: Tasso has been in his new foster home now for about a month. His original foster home turned out to be a little to hectic for him. There were lots of kids around. Tasso is a sweet and very loving boy, but he worries. If things get too noisy or too rushed, he becomes very timid. Sometimes he will not want to come back in the house until he is sure that things have settled down. Once inside, he loves to curl up and cuddle with people. He is still puppy enough to enjoy chewing on toys. He LOVES his walks. He will potty on walks, but not all the time.

His original foster home crated him, but not for long periods. Here, if he gets stressed, he will not keep his crate clean.

Tasso's ideal home  would be a quiet home with gentle and understanding adopters. He would probably do very well with an obedience class to give him confidence.

Tasso has great potential and would be a fanstastic dog for someone who will work with him. He rides beautifully in the car. He is extremly loving and loyal and just the cutest boy ever.

Tasso is a small but very happy 3-4yr old neutered male beagle.  He was given up with Jambalaya and Hershey.  He and Jambalaya may be related.  He is super sweet and just full of himself, wagging his tail and smiling non-stop.  He is great with other dogs but was a stray at Louisa Co. so his history is unknown.
