Rebel

I am available for adoption!

Age: 2 years

Gender: Male

Adoption Day Info: I’ll be at the Bel Air, MD Petco on Saturday, Jan 10th!

11/25 – Squirrels.  Rebel LOVES squirrels.  He spends a lot of time at the window, often “standing” on two feet, looking for them and when he spies one he springs into action.  This boy can jump.  And jump and jump.  I think he is spring loaded.  Of course, the squirrels are fast and know when the dogs are coming, so once he is on the other side of the door he hasn’t come near catching one.  But he enjoys the chase.

Rebel has been in his foster home just over a week – he and Lee came home with me from the November adoption day.  Rebel was very timid and overwhelmed at first.  He avoided the other dogs as best as he could – though, of course, they insisted on checking him out.  He wouldn’t come to us or even come near us.  Nor would he settle down – he just walked around the family room.  Within a day he started to gain confidence and now he seems to be a different dog from the one that arrived.

Rebel gets along very well with his foster brother Lee.  They love to be outside together where Lee will chase Rebel around the yard.  Inside, Rebel takes the lead in their wrestling matches.  But he is still finding his place in the pack and gaining confidence. He can get a bit testy with the other dogs.  He knows to stay clear of the dominant female, but he sometimes gets growly with the other resident dogs.  If he is napping in a lap, he occasionally shows some possessiveness if one of the other dogs gets too close.

Rebel loves to get attention and cuddle.  He will get up on the couch with me to cuddle and is happy napping with his head in my lap (and he can curl his body up very tightly).  Rebel also loves to “hunt” in the backyard.  He’ll get outside, put nose to ground and go back and forth and in circles around the yard following wherever his nose takes him.  Thankfully, his hunting isn’t accompanied by his calling the other dogs – so far, he does it quietly.

He has been a good boy.  He loves chewing on the Nylabones, but doesn’t chew on things that he shouldn’t have.  He will walk away from his bowl while eating (he sometimes takes a bite then steps a few paces away from the bowl) – and doesn’t get upset if someone else approaches the bowl thinking he is finished.  He is doing well with housetraining – and he knows how to use the doggy door.  And although this boy can really jump, he hasn’t put this skill to use in trying to get over the baby gates (or out of the yard).

He is a very handsome boy and full of love – he is going to make some family very happy.

Original info: Rebel is a 2yr old purebred 15" beagle boy that is a little overwhelmed at the moment.  He was given up by his family because they didn't have the time or space to keep him.  He is a little reserved but would benefit from a little training and confidence building.  He was kept outdoors so no housetraining to BREW's knowledge.  He still needs to be neutered.
