I've Been Adopted!

UPDATE - 26 FEBRUARY 2017: After a week in our home, I can confirm that Shelly is house trained, and crate trained. She is an active girl who needs a lot of attention and exercise. We walk her several times a day, and she seems like she could always keep going.

Inside she loves to play, and can entertain herself for short periods with her toys, but prefers interactions while playing. She can be a bit rough in her play, so she would do better in a house without small children (babies/toddlers).

She responds well to corrections and is learning a lot. She is a great dog and will be an amazing pet for the right person or family. She is sweet and affectionate. She wants to be with people, and when she is done playing she loves cuddles.

19 FEBRUARY 2017: Shelly is a sweet girl who loves everyone, and every snack. She loves playing with toys, getting her belly rubbed, chasing squirrels, and cuddling after a long day. She is attentive, polite, and eager to please. She was great on a hike, friendly to other dogs, people, and children. She rides well in the car, quickly settling down and napping. So far she has not had any accidents in the house. She is a very quiet beagle girl, not much of a singer. She wags her tail to let you know she's happy.

Original info: Shelly is a 2-year-old beagle girl whose 2017 didn't start out well, but she is now safely with BREW.  The first couple of days at the kennel, she wouldn't move from the door but is now is becoming more acclimated.  She was stray that was taken in for a few months and then taken to the Madison County, Virginia Animal Shelter.  Shelly is fairly quiet, friendly, and good with other dogs.  As of February 2017, she is fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption!

  1. How is she with cats?

    • Erin

Hi, Heather – Shelly is not fostered with cats and has not been cat-tested by BREW. Given her playful, energetic personality, it’s possible she may view cats as playmates. Thanks for your interest!

  2. Hello Erin! We met you and Shelly on the hike last week at Sugarloaf. We are so excited to see Shelly again, but have not heard back yet from Brew Beagles. How is she doing? If you’re able to email about her, my email is [REMOVED FOR PRIVACY]. Thanks so much!

Hi, Kimmy – I’m actually not fostering Shelly (just a website admin), but we’re glad you enjoyed meeting her! I just added an update and new photos from Shelly’s foster home, so you can learn a bit more about her here. If you have submitted an application, they are assigned to our application volunteers about once a week, and someone should be in touch with you soon. If you have not submitted an application, I hope you will. Details on the process can be found HERE. Thanks for your interest!

  3. Where is Shelly being housed?

    • Erin

Hello – Shelly is currently fostered in Northern Virginia.

  4. Is she crate trained and cat friendly?

    • Erin

Hi, Linda – Shelly just moved from boarding to a foster home yesterday, so we are still learning about her. She has not been cat-tested, however.

  5. She is very playful. She and Diago are playmates!
