Schenley was the best dog ever. He never asked for anything and gave so much. When we adopted him in 2004 (his BREW name was Sammy), he was so timid that he would get startled by the sound of a plastic grocery bag. It took him months to feel comfortable sitting with us. He had a knack for cheating death, several times making it through potentially tragic events without really noticing. In fact, his BREW story started with him being found at a shelter after having been attacked by another dog, and BREW paid to have him vetted. In 2005 we adopted a sister for him from BREW, and the two of them had lots of fun figuring out who was in charge of the house. They lived together happily as "brother and sister" for many years. In the end, it seems time finally caught up to our little buddy. We never knew how old he was, but he was probably about 17 or 18. We'll be forever grateful that BREW saved Schenley's life so that we could know him. There will never be another dog quite like Schenley. We will really miss him.
