I've Been Adopted!

UPDATE - 8 NOVEMBER 2014: Sammy is a wonderful dog. He is timid when first approached, and very submissive, so rather than run from you he will lie down and show you his belly. Once you start rubbing that soft belly, he's a happy boy! He has claimed a spot next to his favorite person (mom, of course!) on the couch, and he sleeps on mom and dad's bed when they aren't around. When they get ready to go to bed, Sammy reluctantly goes to his own doggy bed (in the same room) where he sleeps the whole night through. He is completely house-trained, and learned how to use the doggy door after being in his foster home for only a few hours. He gets along well with his three doggy siblings.

After a full week in our home, I have not heard Sammy bark even once. It is surprising, but because I assumed he would join into the howling chorus that greets me every day when I get home from work, but Sammy just squeezes into the crowd and wags his tail with vigorous anticipation. He does not have a destructive bone in his body, either. He hasn't even come close to chewing on anything except the dog bones I give him, which he loves! (He's not to sure about the squeaky toys, though; those are kind of scary.) The only thing that Sammy struggles with is leash walking. He doesn't like the leash, so we have been practicing walking outside on it a little each day to try to get him comfortable with it.

Overall, Sammy is a happy, healthy boy who seems to love everyone he meets. He would be a wonderful addition to any family!

3 NOVEMBER 2014: Sammy has been in his foster home for one day and is settling in nicely. He gets along with all of the other dogs and hasn’t done any marking in the house. He slept all night in his dog bed in our room.

10 OCTOBER 2014: Sammy is sweet, quiet, and low-key. He needs a little more confidence but gets along great with other dogs.

Original info: Sammy is a 3-year-old fully vetted male beagle.  This big, handsome guy is friendly and playful and gets along great with other dogs.  He was a stray in Culpeper Animal Shelter so his history is unknown.
