UPDATE - 3 FEBRUARY 2017: Sammy is doing well. He walks about 2 miles a day and loves food, especially apple slices and any form of chicken. He enjoys crashing through leaf piles and playing with his toys. He loves to go in the car. If I need somebody to sleep on me while I watch TV Sammy happily does. He also loves to nap on the back of the couch.
Sammy does not like cats, rain, unneutered male dogs, or dogs that crowd him. He has arthritis in his neck and hips and will sometimes growl and snap if touched. He has prescriptions he takes when he needs them for the pain and he takes joint supplements every day. He is missing a ring of fur around his neck where he had a collar on too tight and sometimes gets ingrown hairs.
He won't go outside and pee quickly so he'll be hard for someone who has to hurry in the morning. Something bad must have happened to him in a fenced yard so his adopter should plan on leash walking him. He's pretty good about going outside except when it rains but sometimes he just won't go pee in the afternoon so he wears a belly band to remind him not to go in the house. He bows down to have it velcroed around his tummy area.
14 OCTOBER 2016: Sammy loves to walk, especially in the woods. He is extremely sweet and follows me everywhere. He won't go into my fenced backyard unless I go out first and stay with him, even if my other dog is out. He sleeps in the bed and loves to snuggle and have a belly rub in the early morning. He is grabby with both dog and people food so would not do well with young children. He is getting better at being housebroken, but if something exciting happens he sometimes slips up. He does pull on his leash some but is better with a harness.
27 JULY 2016: Sammy, who was previously listed as a courtesy post, is now a BREW beagle! He will be available for adoption soon!
Original info - MAY 2016: Sammy is an 8- going on 3-year old, 20-pound, neutered male beagle. He loves walks, toys and cuddle times. He is a little demanding of food as beagles often are and his foster mom crates him at meal time because there are other dogs around. Other than that, he loves other dogs. Sweet, active, and playful, but also is usually quiet and is fine settling down next to you on the sofa or by your feet. He would love to sleep in the bed with you. He'll make a great companion for someone. He is Lyme positive, but is being treated and will be good as new soon!
