I'm Available and Looking for a Foster Home!

UPDATE - 17 MARCH 2018 - Turns out Rocket wasn't too fond of one of the resident dogs at his new foster home, so we are back to looking for another home for this handsome guy.  The other dog was a male, so we are thinking Rocket might do best as an only dog or with a female.

UPDATE - 10 MARCH 2018: Handsome Rocket went to his new foster home today. He was able to join us at the adoption event. He was a little uncertain about meeting so many people, but he enjoyed walking around outside with some of the other beagles. Stay tuned as we get to know more about Rocket from his new foster family.

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: Rocket is a 1 year old male beagle who is a little unsure about everything at the moment but is very playful. He was very happy to race around the yard while we were trying to get pictures and catch him. It was all a game!! He’s friendly and good with other dogs. He was a stray at the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He will be available soon for fostering or adoption.

  1. Will Rocket be at the upcoming adoption day?

    • Janet

Yes, Rocket will be at the adoption day. He just finished up his vetting and is now available for fostering or adoption. If you haven’t already put in an application, you can fill one out at the adoption day.

  2. I am very interested in Rocket. I have a shy (with people) 16 pound beagle mix, Bo, who loves dogs. We lost our Sadie girl on Christmas Eve. Is Rocket about the same size as Bo?

Hi Don – We are very sorry to hear about the loss of your Sadie, especially on Christmas Eve. Thank you for considering adopting another beagle. Rocket is still going through some vetting, so we are not yet sure when he will be available. There are other people also interested in him, so I don’t know how long he will be available once his vetting is completed. To be eligible to adopt Rocket or any of our beagles, you will need to submit an application at Once we receive your application, one of our volunteers will contact you directly to give you an update on Rocket and to go through our adoption process.

  3. Hi! I was wondering how Rocket does with cats or if he has had any experience with them. Thanks!

    • Janet

Hi Alyssa – Thank you for your interest in Rocket. He was a stray when he came to BREW, and he has not yet been in a foster home, so we do not know much about his house manners or how he would do with cats. We hope to get him into a foster home soon.

      • Wonderful! I put in my application and fee today. We are very interested in Rocket. For some reason, we have become very drawn to him! We were wondering when he would be available for adoption. Also, my fiance and I are both off the whole first week in April and were thinking that would be a great time for our dog and him to become acquainted. Is it possible for him to be in a foster home until that time? If not, it is not a deal breaker at all, we were just brainstorming about a good time to adopt him due to our schedules. I look forward to hearing from you!

  4. Do you adopt out to other parts of the country? I live in California and have three rescue Beagles at present. I would love a younger male to add to my pack.

    • Janet

Hi Judy – Thank you for your interest in BREW. Most of our beagles are located in Virginia and Maryland. We have done adoptions with people who live in other parts of the country, but you would have to travel to Virginia/Maryland to meet our beagles. We don’t transport beagles cross country.
