I've Been Adopted!

Pocahontas is a 2-year-old spayed and fully vetted beagle who is super sweet and friendly. She weighs 24.5 pounds. She has a great personality and gets along well with other dogs but was a stray at the Amelia Animal Shelter, Virginia, so her history is unknown. She is available for fostering or adoption.

  1. Hello! I was approved to adopt Madison (currently with Susan L.). I have visited and spent time with Madison (or Maddie, as I’ve been calling her), most recently yesterday. I actually came down yesterday, originally with the plan of picking up Maddie, but it turns out that her natural Beagle tendencies have come into play in a major way… Recently she has enjoyed spending much of days out in the woods connected to Susan’s property out running and “hunting” — Although I’ve become quite fond of the old girl, I don’t feel comfortable taking her away from an environment that suits her so well, to bring her to life in an apartment, with a much more “suburban” like life, with most of outside time being spent on leash-led walks. I do enjoy taking my current dog to dog parks and would continue to do so, that certainly doesn’t match daily romps in the woods “hunting”!! During my visit with Susan, we also went to see Teresa at the kennel and I saw the female Beagles she is caring for there. I was specifically drawn to Pocahontas (despite not really caring for her name… lol)… I’d be interested in pursuing adopting Pocahontas, but would want to spend some more time with her. She appears to be a bit skittish with people at first, and I’d like to see if that goes away with time. I’d also be interested in seeing how she behaves in a home setting. If she does go to a foster home, I’d be interested in hearing how she adapts there. Please keep me posted regarding Pocahontas and her foster/adoption status. I live in North/Central MD, so it’s a 2.5-3 hours drive down to the kennel and to Susan’s place, which I don’t mind doing, but it would be nice to come home one of these times with a good girl! :-). Thanks!!
