Age: 8 years
UPDATE - 27 JANUARY 2014: Don't let Ol' Red's name or age fool you, this "old" dog still has a of spunk! He is a very happy dog who loves to go on walks and when his nose isn't plastered to the ground after a scent, the rest of the time he is looking up adoringly at whoever is at the other end of the leash. He also likes to play with toys, mainly soft ones with squeakers and a few balls that also squeak, though in true beagle fashion, he is not a retriever. He is housetrained and walks well on the leash. He loves to snuggle and though he is a small beagle (he's twenty pounds when he's soaking wet) he will make the leap onto the human bed to snuggle in someone's warm spot. He does well in the crate, keeping it dry while we are gone. Though he prefers the weekends when he is allowed to sleep upstairs on a dog bed (he will go the whole night without incident), he also does well in the crate overnight, only barking for a few minutes before settling down to go to sleep. He does very well with other dogs, sharing sleeping and feeding space without any problems and also plays very nicely with our dogs. He has not been around any children as of yet. Like most beagles, he does like to "counter surf" after any food that might be left out or in your hands, however, he does know sit and will sit and wait to be given a treat. He is a very sweet, "middle" aged dog who would make a wonderful addition to any home.
Original Info: Ol' Red is an 8-year-old, 24-pound beagle boy who came to BREW in early January 2014. This poor guy was surrendered to the shelter by his owner who simply "didn't want him anymore." Despite this, Ol' Red is a very friendly guy. He was described as an "absolute sweetheart" at the shelter, and he has lots of love to give! During his transport, Red rode very quietly for 2 hours and kept his crate clean and dry. He will be available for adoption once he is fully vetted.
