I've Been Adopted!Odie

Age: 2 years

Gender: Male

UPDATE - 31 May 2014:  Odie and Delila came to their foster home one week ago and had completely different responses.  They arrived while I was out and were spending time in the yard with my husband.  Immediately upon my stepping into the yard, Delila ran across the yard to come greet me.  Odie on the other hand, snuck up to me, let me pet him and then found the best hiding place in the yard.  One week later, Delila remains her lovey self, and Odie has really opened up.

Odie is a very sweet little guy.  He is still a bit fearful, but given the progress he has made in a week, he should be a confident dog in no time.  Odie is a bit nervous at meal time, eating some running off, and then coming back for more.  He sleeps quietly all night in a kennel with Delila.  Odie loves to sit with me and cuddle.  He is also a kisser.  Odie doesn’t know about belly rubs yet.  When I try to roll him over to rub his belly he gets a bit scared, but does accept them.  He plays with or ignores the other dogs as their personality dictates.  He is also good with the cats and the cats aren’t fearful of him.  I can’t really comment on house training yet – we did have a couple of accidents last weekend, but that can just be the stress of a new situation.

24 May 2014: Odie recently moved into a foster home. Here's a VIDEO of him with his current foster sister, Delila.

First impressions: Odie is a 2-year-old neutered male beagle.  Odie would do best with another dog.  He's a little on the shy side but does warm up once he gets to know you.  He was a stray in Goochland County so his history is unknown. Stay tuned for more information on Odie!

I adopted Pippin from you in July 2003 and Laddie (Chewy) in June 2006. I was also Buddy’s hospice home, he died in May 2006. There were several other fosters, to, who all found forever homes. Sad to say, Pippin had liver cancer and I had to put her to sleep on Monday, 30 Apri, but she really wasn’t in pain for very longl. I have of course looked through the BREW site and was interested in Odie and Dalilia. I do have Laddie, but he is 14 1/2 and very arthritic. He sleeps a lot, like lovin’, loves walks but they are always slow. So, it might work best for me to get two more beagles now.

Having said that, I am going on vacation on 31 July. I have a place for Laddie, I can probably add two more to that, but I’m also wondering if I should wait until August. But, Odie and Dalilia looked like good beagles and so I wanted to inquire about them.

You can email me or call home [removed for privacy purposes] or cell [removed for privacy purposes] (and I work at home so I am home during the day; we also have a doggie door to a fenced in back yard, but it’s closed now because Laddie can’t get down the stairs or back in the doggie door). I definitely want at least one more beagle soon and possibly two.

If someone could call and chat, that would be helpful.

I don’t want a puppy, somewhere between 2 and 6 would be fine. Must be good with other dogs and children (although the grandkids are in England, so they aren’t here very much) and I really prefer housebroken or at least “has a clue.”

Thank you. Talk to you soon. Grace Aspinall

Hi, Grace – we are so very sorry to learn of Pippin’s passing, but we know you gave her a wonderful home and that she was greeted by BREW friends at the Rainbow Bridge. I have passed your message along to a couple of our adoption folks, and hopefully someone will be in touch with you soon. Thank you for your interest in adopting another beagle – or two! – and please let me know if you have any questions. (PS – we have your phone numbers from your post, but I have removed them from the public site for privacy purposes.)

p.s. I’m also a home inspector for BREW. Do I need to fill out an application or do anything else?

        • Laura w/ BREW

Grace, no need to fill out a new application. I’ve emailed you privately already. Thanks!
