UPDATE - 13 JULY 2018: Mera hasn't had an accident in the house in over a week and is using the doggy door on a regular basis. She is now comfortable enough to let me give her a belly rub. The baby gate she jumps is about 18 inches but the other taller gates she is unable to jump. She does well walking on a leash as long as the grass isn't high. She initiates zoomies with my other dogs and enjoys the companionship, although I do not believe she needs to be in a home with another dog.
UPDATE - 13 JUNE 2018 (from Mera's foster mom): Mera, otherwise known by me as “happy feet” is a lovely little beagle. When she is excited, which is most of the time, her front paws are prancing and her tail is going a mile a minute. I would describe her as very agile and fearless as she jumps the shorter baby gate I have up. She was a little standoffish the first night, but quickly realized that she was welcome to sit next to me on the couch or lay next to me on the bed. However, I would not say she is a lap dog nor knows what a belly rub entails, as I do not believe she is familiar with these concepts. There have been a few accidents; however, she quickly picked up the doggy door as long as it isn’t raining or the grass isn’t too high for her. She is able to last all night without a potty break. She enjoys playing with my other dogs, but I do not believe she needs to be in a pack as she is pretty independent. If you are looking for an active beagle, this girl is for you.
UPDATE - 26 MAY 2018: Mera went to her new foster home today, so stay tuned as we get to know her better.
NEW - 17 MAY 2018: Mera is a 3-year-old spayed female beagle who weighs 20 pounds. She is super friendly, playful and gets along well with other dogs. She was a stray at the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. She is available for fostering or adoption.
