UPDATE - 8 May 2014: Martin is a very sweet boy. He returned to his foster home after he turned out to be too active for his new doggy sister. Unfortunately, he had to move on from me after only two weeks. Why? Because it turns out he is also an agile boy. One morning we heard him barking and looked around for him thinking he must have been closed up in a closet or room. Nope. He was on the front porch. He had maneuvered over our fence. As such, he will need a home with a privacy fence or no fence (plus walks).
Martin is a mixed bag in the manners department. He comes when called. He sits for pets. He is house trained and does go to the door when he wants out. He learns quickly. But Martin still uses his mouth for play – so he probably wouldn't be a fit for a family with young children. Martin was also very interested in my cats, but it didn't seem to be in an aggressive way. So two of my cats just ignored him and two avoided him. With the other dogs in the house he was fine – played or not as they wished. And he really wants you to share your food with him.
Martin also does not react well to stress. For the first two or three days back with us he was a bit overwhelmed, but the worse that happened was that we lost a couple of doggy beds. Not a tragedy. So he will need someone who will be patient with him while he settles into his new environment.
He really is that gorgeous. Runs in the family – check out brother, Rover, too!
20 April 2014: Martin a stunning, friendly beagle boy who was adopted earlier this year but is back up for adoption through no fault of his own - his playful nature was just too much for the other, somewhat nervous dog in the home. We'll know more about Martin once he has settled back into his foster home!
Martin came to BREW from Madison County, VA, where he was an owner surrender with his brother, Rover. He is very friendly and good with other dogs. Both boys were already fully vetted and are ready for adoption. We'll know more about Martin once he moves into a foster home. Stay tuned!
