UPDATE - 25 FEBRUARY 2018: Lulu has an extravagant capacity to love, leaping up to kiss our faces when we walk in the door. She adores exploring outside and is happiest snoring peacefully beside you. The vet told us Lulu weighs 24.4 pounds. Lulu does suffer when you leave her alone and will resort to crying and chewing anything that reminds her of you, so until she outgrows those tendencies Lulu is not ideal for townhouse or apartment dwellers. But if Lulu chooses to adopt you with her exuberant personality, you will be happy, lucky and cherished forever. The end.
UPDATE - 18 FEBRUARY 2018 (from Lulu's foster family): Lulu is desperately seeking her soulmate. She flounces around the house, investigating every little thing, until you disappear behind a door and then she will cry piteously "What are you doing? Why can't I be with you? Please let me be near you!" There is nothing better to Lulu than sprawling in your lap or lying near your feet in a comfy doggie bed. Lulu is so gorgeous, the pictures do not do her justice as they do not feature her long eyelashes! She has a positive, charming personality and a puppy-like nature. She took off with my slipper and I found it discarded and partially chewed later in the day. Lulu walks good on the leash but outside she is a little more cautious, especially around other dogs; she needs to be approached slowly and will warm up quickly. Be alert for the presence of squirrels as Lulu will take off after them without a thought! Lulu pees and poops while on the leash and she is working on her housetraining. Lulu will cry initially in the crate but settles soon with some relaxing music and a yummy kong. She loves toys and plays all by herself though she loves her foster pal, Gus who came home with her. With Lulu, the tail wags the dog!
UPDATE - 17 FEBRUARY 2018: Sweet Lulu was a hit at our adoption event today - loved everyone she met, and everyone loved her! Lulu is now in a foster home, so stay tuned as we learn more about how she does as a house dog. Check out her new picture from her first night in her foster home (snuggling with foster brother Gus).
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: Lulu is a 2 year old female beagle who was an owner surrender to the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia because she was no longer safe in her kennel. She was a hunting dog that was kenneled with other females who didn’t like her. She is very cute and friendly. She is currently kenneled with another female beagle and has not had any issues. She is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
