I've Been Adopted!Jet

Age: 1-2 years

Gender: Male

10 MARCH 2014: Jet has been with us now since New Year's Day. He is a very sweet boy who lives for belly rubs and human snuggles. Jet loves to give kisses, is a good kitchen "helper", and loves to greet anyone who comes in the door! He does not know a human stranger, and everyone he meets is his friend immediately. We do not have kids, but he did very well meeting a few families with children at the adoption event.

He is house and crate trained and has pretty good house manners (minimal begging, no chewing, etc.). His one downside is that he does have some jealousy issues with other dogs. He generally gets along okay with our two beagles, but we do think he'd be best as an only dog. All things considered, Jet is a fantastically well adjusted dog. Some family will be very lucky to win his love forever! We promise you will never be better loved.

19 JANUARY 2014 - Note from foster home: While Jet LOVES the company of humans, he prefers to have them to himself and would be best adopted into a home with no other dogs.

17 DECEMBER 2013 - News from a great temporary foster! We adopted a BREW Beagle a year ago and he has been a fantastic addition to our family. To try to give back a little for the great work that BREW does, we offered to take one of the Beagles at the vet for a day on the weekend.

I have three children, ages 8, 7 and 5 and they rose at 5:30am they were so excited to go get Jet for the day. (Note to self, don't tell the kids before breakfast next time!)

We picked him up at the Veterinary Clinic at about 10:30am. He came out and howled a greeting to us. I thought he might keep on barking but he stopped as soon as we went outside. He pulled me towards a tree and tinkled. Then he looked at me as if to say "What's up? Where are we going?"

I sent the kids into the car and he hopped up with no assistance. On the way home he sat up in the front seat and just looked out. He was happy to be in the car and no trouble at all.

We got him home and he met my beagle Yahoo. They sniffed each other and then largely ignored each other. Jet went to the door and I interpreted that as wanting to go out. He went outside and relieved himself, then came back in. He clearly knew how to go outside. He also knows how to sit, as when I told my dog to sit for a treat, Jet sat down immediately. This dog was clearly someone's dog at one point.

For the rest of the day he was happy to nap and be pet by my kids. When he's sleeping and you call his name to get up, he rolls over with all fours in the air for belly scratches.

Very gentle boy. He was able to tolerate the mild rough behavior of my children with no problems.

If I had more room, I'd have kept him. This dog will be at home in almost any situation. Very calm and cuddly.

Original info: Jet came to us from the shelter in Dublin, VA. He was surrendered to the shelter in early November and thankfully BREW got him out in time. Jet is thought to be 1 - 2 years old and is friendly with both dogs and humans. In the case of humans he greets them with a wagging tail and a big, wet tongue in the face. Jet is at our favorite vet clinic now getting some work done, but will be ready for adoption in by 11/25. Wouldn't you like to make your home his furever home?

Special thanks to Nicole Abramson who brought Jet to us from Dublin!

Hi it’s Emily Logar I was just wondering if you could tell me where jet is located.

    • ErinS

Hi, Emily – Jet is fostered in the Washington, DC area. Please look HERE for information our our adoption process. We hold periodic events, and arrangements can be made for approved applicants to meet dogs outside of events. Thanks for your interest!

  2. Hey there! I’ve been following your weblog for a long time now and finally got the bravery to go ahead

Is jet still looking for a home? He is a good looking boy.

    • Laura w/ BREW

Leroy, yes, Jet is available for adoption! Please submit an adoption application on our website if you’d like to get the process started. Thanks!

  4. Virginia Schneider

Hi! We are intrested in Jet. Recently we had our 16 year old dog pass away and we are now considering another dog. However, we still have our cat, and were wondering if you are aware of how well he gets along with cats.

    • ErinS

Hi, Virginia – I am so sorry to hear about your family’s recent loss. As far as I know, Jet has not been cat-tested. He does have jealousy issues with dogs, though. We do have a few foster homes with cats, and BREW beagles known to be good with cats can be found here: http://www.brewbeagles.org//tag/good-with-cats/page/2/ (note that this list includes both available and already-adopted dogs, but they are marked as such). We can definitely work with you to find a good match if you decide to submit an application. Thanks for your interest!

Jet sounds wonderful! we would love to meet him. we are previous adopters & are just waiting for the home inspection to be done before we are free to adopt again. Could we arrange to meet Jet?

    • Christina M

      Hi, Sarah-

I’m sorry for the delayed response. I don’t think anyone monitors the comments regularly. I’m Jet’s foster mom. We’d be happy to arrange a meeting if you’re still interested! Feel free to email me at christinalmcnally at gmail dot com.

  6. Tina Chester

Interested in Jet. We’ve adopted from you before, in 2003. Looking for a small 1-3 yr old male that is friendly with other dogs and cats. We live in Virginia, in the same home as our inspection.

    • Christina M

      Hi, Tina-

Jet just came to our house as a foster yesterday and is still available for adoption. If you’re interested in him, please fill out an application, and someone from BREW will be in contact!

Jet just came to our house as a foster yesterday and is still available for adoption. If you’re interested in him, please fill out an application, and someone from BREW will be in contact!

  8. Greg

    Can you tell me:
Is jet good with kids? With other dogs? Is he house trained? What’s his energy level? Any bad habits? Thanks!

    • ErinS

Hi, Greg – we actually don’t know a whole lot about Jet yet because he is currently in boarding awaiting a foster home. Approved adopters can, however, make arrangements to meet specific dogs, so you may want to take a look at information on the process HERE. Thanks for your interest!

    • Mark L

      Hi Greg,

Please read my write up above. I just took Jet for the day on Sunday. Let me answer your questions one by one:

      1) Is he good with kids? : An unqualified yes. Very gentle, very tolerant dog. And I have three kids under 8 years old.

      2) Other dogs? : He was good. My beagle snapped at him a bit and he got his back up but really wanted no part of conflict.

      3) House trained: I had him for 5 hours. He followed my dog outside and relieved himself immediately upon going out, so it seems he gets that outside is where we got to the bathroom. I can’t swear he’s house trained after 5 hours though.

      4) Energy level: On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being a sleepy lazy hound dog and 10 being a yappy dog, I’d give him about a 3. He enjoyed a good nap with us but did play tug on the rope with my kids. He can also sit and walked on his hind legs for a treat.

I’d be surprised if you didn’t love him, so don’t go to meet him unless you’re wanting a dog. I almost kept him myself.

where is Jet that I may go visit him?

    • ErinS

Hi, Angela – Jet is currently in Virginia, but arrangements can be made for approved applicants to meet potential matches. Some dogs also attend our periodic adoption events, and that is noted in their profiles the week before. The first steps toward adopting any BREW beagle are to fill out an application and pay the application fee. You can learn more about the process and find a link to the application HERE. Thanks for your interest!
