I've Been Adopted!

Duchess and Princess are little beagle girls who were given up by an elderly woman to the Green County Animal Shelter in Virginia when she could no longer care for them. They are both just shy of being a year old and pretty unsure and little frightened about everything at the moment. Duchess is on the small side with short legs. She is a little timid and submissive but friendly. She will need training and an opportunity to learn what it means to be loved. Both she and Princess will be available soon for fostering or adoption.

  1. I saw Duchess on the Greene county animal shelter Facebook page. My husband and I are very interested in adopting this baby. But I’d like to know if she can be adopted alone or does she have to be adopted with princess? And when is she available for adoption?

    Thank you

Hi Rachelle – Thank you for your interest in Duchess. We just got her and Princess, so we still need to have them checked out by our vet, which we are hoping to do next week. Right now we are just giving them time to adjust to new surroundings. Once the girls are given the “okay” by our vet, they will be available for fostering or adoption – either together or separately. They came to use very scared, but they are starting to open up. Duchess is more timid than Princess. If you are interested in adopting Duchess, you will need to go through our application and interview process. Our application is at http://www.brewbeagles.org/brew-adoption-process/adoption-application/. Once we have received your initial application and fee (Paypal is best) we will assign you a volunteer who can talk to you directly about our adoption process and the possibility of adopting Duchess. Thank you again for considering adopting a BREW beagle!

    • Duchess is so sweet looking. I have sent in an application. We had an almost 17 year old beagle dachshund that could have been her mother.

Duchess is still waiting to be vetted, so she is not yet available. She is very timid and will need a very patient family and, perhaps, a more social dog to help bring her out of her shell. She probably wouldn’t do well being forced into social situations that would scare her. We will know more once we can get her into a foster home to see how quickly she can adjust to a new environment.

        • We certainly will do whatever is best for Duchess and would not introduce her to anymore then she could handle. Our last dog, Daisy was also a rescue and apparently Duchess sounds much like Daisy when we first got her. Looking forward to meeting Duchess.

Hi Alice – We received your application, and you should be hearing from someone soon. Thank you for your interest in Duchess!
