I've Been Adopted!

UPDATE - 2 APRIL 2017: Weighing just 27.8 pounds, Dalton is the perfect size to cuddle with. He initially objected to taking a bath but when he realized how good it felt, he rested his chin on my arm and just enjoyed (getting toweled down was pretty special too!). Dalton gets along so well with the other beagles in the family. He has a special mat that he sleeps on every night and he likes to sneak up there during the day, too. Dalton loves to go for walks in the woods and wags his tail back and forth the entire time. He is friendly with other dogs, still no barking to speak of. Dalton's favorite food is cheese, and sometimes that's the only thing that will get him in from the backyard. He startles easily but he is slowly learning to relax. Also, Dalton is a big fan of kids.

26 MARCH 2017: Dalton is a real treat to have as a visitor. He is nice and quiet; has had no accidents in the house and poops and pees while on the leash. He seems really skittish, and when you approach him, Dalton bows low. I spent a lot of time with him and he has relaxed and sleeps at my feet while I work on the computer. I also learned his custom, and bow low when I want him to come to me, which he will do, returning the bow. I think that he was trained to do that because he does not seem fearful. He likes kids, roughhouses  with dogs who want to roughhouse and keeps a respectful distance from those who don't. I brought the vacuum cleaner out and his response seemed like "My eye, woman! Why would you consort with such a thing?" but then Dalton was very interested and followed me around as I cleaned. He rides well in the car, sleeps through the night, and enjoyed a hike in the woods today.

First impressions: Dalton is a 4-year-old male that is super sweet and friendly.  He gets along well with other dogs.  He was a stray at the Fluvanna County, Virginia shelter, and his history is unknown. He has been vetted but still needs neutering.  Dalton will be available soon. Thanks to the Fluvanna SPCA for the great photo!

  1. At which point in the adoption process does the status change to “adoption pending”? Is it after the interview has been set up or right before the dog is ready to be picked up?

Once a homecheck has been completed and the family has met and decided on a particular beagle.
