UPDATE - 17 FEBRUARY 2018: Axel is back to looking for a new foster home. He ended up not getting along with the other resident foster beagle, so we are thinking he might do better as an only dog. We had him at the adoption event today, and he did okay with most dogs, but there were a couple of male dogs he just didn't like. He seemed to do best with our more submissive females.
DATE - 7 FEBRUARY 2018 (from Axel's foster family): Axel is an energetic, playful, and affectionate beagle! He loves to run and play-- he plays with balls, plastic chew toys, rope tugs, and plush toys. He will toss the toy up in the air and run after it if no one wants to play with him. He also hides his favorite toys, and stalks them to play later. He barks to get the humans' attention for playtime.
He enjoys walks, zigging and zagging and sniffing and marking all the spots in the neighborhood. He doesn't pull on the leash. When out for walks he does not want to interact with other dogs, and lets them know by giving a growl.
He has made progress in house training, but any adopter will need to continue working with him. He seems to be a pretty quick learner.
He sleeps through the night, and patiently waits under the dining room table with his foster brother when the humans are eating.
He has moments of brotherly love with his foster brother, Boomer, but has also been aggressive towards him. Axel may do better as an only dog.
Axel hasn't been tested with cats or small children.
UPDATE - 3 FEBRUARY 2018: Axel went to a foster home today, so stay tuned as we learn more about him from his new foster family.
UPDATE - 24 JANUARY 2018: Axel has completed his vetting process and is now available for fostering or adoption.
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: Axel is a handsome 3 year old beagle boy who is very friendly and good with people and other dogs. He was a stray in Madison County in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He will be available soon for fostering or adoption.
